PHAIDON: BY DESIGN

Space designer Tae Oh has a special ability to reinterpret the past into the present. The perspective of designer Tae-oh Yang, a rising star in the design world who is creating hot spaces full of personality in Seoul these days, is astonishing. He discovers a meaningful design motif in traditional Korean heritage and puts it into the space with a modern sensibility. People looking for him range from celebrities including the first lady of Korea to the general public. In 2016, I participated in the toilet improvement project at Manghyang Rest Area, and it was reborn as the best highway rest area that I want to include on Instagram. The design studio named after the designer mainly specializes in residential and commercial space design and construction, but in fact, his design talent often goes beyond the scope of interior design. For Wallpaper magazine's annual exhibition project Handmade, three birdbaths were designed and showcased based on the colorful symbols found in traditional Korean gardens. Luxury brands were also busy chasing him. In collaboration with Fendi, he created an antique Peekaboo bag painted with lacquer in resin, and Vacheron Constantin, a Swiss watch brand, also exhibited a 3D-printed stone tower. No matter what client's space is commissioned, Taeoh's work contains an unchanging spirit. His design motto is 'the future of the past'. Korean tradition and modern elements together
